The
Miller's Arms is the third in a succession of neighbouring buildings
in Nairne to house this licence: firstly, the New Inn (1848-1851),
then the Crooked Billet (1851-1860), and finally the current hotel.
The Crooked Billet remains as a separate building at the rear of
the hotel and contains the room where Robert Torrens explained the
principles of The Real Property Act, which embodied the 'Torrens
Title'. The Miller's Arms was constructed on the main road through
Nairne which at the time was called 'Sydney Road' (or the road to
Sydney).
