'District' was a popular hotel name in years gone by; this hotel has been known as such since it was established in 1851 on a steep block between the main road through Nairne to the eastern colonies, and the creek behind. It once had a very commodious 'lock-up' on the level beneath the present front bar and a surprisingly large amount of more conventional hotel accommodation on the third level. Nowadays its front bar, gaming room and cosy dining area are the main features.
