Established in 1850 and now known as the Dog'n'Ute Callington Hotel, this traditional Aussie Pub, like many of its era, first catered for miners attracted to the area when copper was discovered nearby. Gradually, sheep grazing and cereal farming succeeded mining as the mainstays of the district, but being a relatively isolated town, the hotel was also strongly patronised by those travelling between the Adelaide Hills and River Murray - or further afield. Today, Callington and its recently refurbished hotel, make a rewarding tourist stop.
